Skyfire Quilting

Quilts are not only beautiful works of art, they are meant to be used.

A quilt is something that serves not only to make a home beautiful, but needs to be able to withstand the practical use of everyday life that a blanket is subjected to. Quilts are meant to keep our loved ones warm and to be tucked in the car for long trips.

It is always my assumption that every quilt I make will not merely be loved, but be well loved. That the quilt will be curled in to watch a good movie, spread out on the grass to stargaze, and suspended between dining room chairs to create a child’s fort.

With that in mind, I strive to make sure that my quilts are as durable and washable as possible given the materials and varying needs of each quilt. If I do my job right, and the quilt owner cares for the quilt properly, then it should be the kind of quilt that a young child can lay on to daydream on the grass, then toss around their dorm room, take to outdoor concerts and picnics, wrap their children and grandchildren in as they grow, and wrap around themselves in their senior years before passing it down to generations to come.

That is the mindset I approach every quilt project from.
